Nam Định was the capital city of Nam Định province in the Red River Delta of the Northern Vietnam. As part of the 2025 Vietnamese administrative reform, all district-level subdivisions, including Nam Định, were abolished. The former city now corresponds with Đông A, Nam Định, Thành Nam, Thiên Trường and Trường Thi wards of Ninh Bình province.
