loqation

Privacy

loqation has no accounts, sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. This page lists everything that is recorded when you use it, and who else sees the connection.

Visit counts

Each page sends a small record to this site's own address, which passes it to kstats, the site owner's own statistics service (it is not a third party). The record holds the page address, the site you came from, campaign tags in the link, your country, device type, screen size, how long the page was open and which links to other sites you followed.

To count visitors without cookies, kstats makes a one-way hash of your network address and browser with a key that changes every day. Your network address itself is never stored. Outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland it also keeps a lasting one-way hash so that returning visitors can be counted. Detailed records are kept for 400 days; after that only daily totals remain.

Live sections

Weather, the past twelve months, air quality, nearby articles and events are loaded by your browser directly from the services that make them: Open-Meteo, Wikipedia (and Wikimedia for images), and for places in Portugal Agenda PT (run by the same person as loqation). They receive the coordinates of the place you are looking at and your network address, as any website you load does. loqation does not see those requests.

The typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, so Google sees your network address when a page first loads.

"Show the town nearest to me"

Only if you press the button, your browser asks you for your location. Your exact position stays on your device: the page downloads the map tiles for the 10° by 10° area around you from this site and picks the nearest town there.

Feedback

A message sent through the feedback form goes to the site owner's private inbox with the kind you chose, your email if you gave one, the page it was about and your device type (for example android/chrome). The email is used only to reply.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles every connection and so sees your network address, as any host would. Cloudflare keeps the server's request logs for a few days, for fixing faults. The lines loqation's own code adds to them name the page, your network's name and number and Cloudflare's bot label, never your address or anything you typed.
