Dinga

Dinga is a city in Gujrat District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is situated in Kharian Tehsil and is one of the established urban centres of the district. The city lies in the wider region between the Jhelum River and Chenab River and has historically functioned as a commercial, administrative and residential centre for surrounding villages and agricultural communities. Dinga is also associated with the wider political, military, educational and overseas-migration history of Gujrat District. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Dinga Municipal Committee had a population of 94,252 in the 2023 census, compared with 50,793 recorded in 2017 under the census classification used for the locality. The official 2023 census table records 47,009 males, 47,231 females and 12 transgender persons in the urban locality. The unusually high intercensal growth shown in the official table reflects changes in the urban population and census coverage and should be interpreted in the context of changing administrative boundaries and urban expansion.
