Tiruvottiyur is a coastal neighbourhood in northern Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, situated on the Bay of Bengal and administered as Zone I of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The settlement has a documented history extending to the Pallava and Chola periods and is particularly associated with the Thyagaraja Temple, a Paadal Petra Sthalam praised in the Tevaram hymns. Early modern East India Company records referred to the locality by forms including Trivetore, Trivitore and Trivadore.

Formerly a separate municipality north of the historic limits of Madras, Tiruvottiyur was incorporated into the expanded Chennai Corporation in 2011 and later became part of Chennai district. The area developed into an important manufacturing centre during the twentieth century, with long-standing industrial associations including MRF, Royal Enfield and KCP Limited, while its coastal settlements continue to support marine fishing and related activities.
